Becoming Aware Of The Value All Around US
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
Have you ever thought about the value that surrounds you and I everyday? Well, if your answer is no, don't worry, you're as normal as the rest of us. That's why in this episode we will discuss how to become more aware of the value all around us and how that impacts our life purpose!
Show notes:
There’s value all around you and I.
- That means there are people, things, resources all around us that are just waiting to add value to our lives, which will enrich our life purpose.
The question is how aware are you of the value currently surrounding you? Here are a few value blinders that could prevent us all from recognizing the great value in our midst
- Distractions: We are surrounded by noise! Digital Marketing experts estimate that most Americans are exposed to around 4,000 to 10,000 advertisements each day
- Self-consumed: Psychologists Matthew Killingsworth and Daniel Gilbert found that the human mind is actually wired for this state of continuous distraction. In a study conducted with 2,250 adults, they concluded that we spend around 47 percent of every waking hour "mind wandering." Also called "stimulus-independent thought," mind wandering is an experience that so ordinary, so natural to us, we don't even notice it.
- Psychologist Martin Wolgast states in the Journal of Psychopathology and Behavioral Assessment that distraction can be a strategy of emotional regulation. Emotional regulation refers to the way we deal with feelings like anger, excitement, frustration, anxiety or low mood and is affected by the stimuli we are exposed to.
- Transactional relationships: We are use to relationships that are predominantly transactional. What can this person do for me types srelationships prevent us from recognizing the value in others.
So how do we unlock the value all around us?
Focus on serving! When we focus on serving we unlock the value around us! What can I get vs what can I give/offer.
Key Takeaway:
Assess your daily focus this past week. Have you paid attention to the value around you? Or have you been more focused on self, distracted, or maybe just transactional in your relationships.
Let’s be more intentional, how can we serve and add value to those in our “6 degrees”. This will not only add value to the lives of others, but it will add value to yours as well.
The greatest value I’ve received in life has come while serving, and intentionally valuing those around me. If you apply this principle you will find the same to be true for your life!
